At just a short flight from the UK, the Algarve’s capital Faro is becoming increasingly popular as a short-break destination. This historical city is alive with an abundance of good restaurants, lively cafes, excellent shops and plenty of theatres and art galleries. Away from the modern, cosmopolitan side of Faro, the well preserved medieval quarters of the old Town, provide a peaceful, quiet retreat. Explore the tiny cobbled streets, in the surrounds of the old Roman walls, with cathedrals, churches, and museums giving a brief insight into Faro’s history.
The coastal lagoons of the Ria Formosa National Park and nearby beaches, including the islands of Ilha de Faro to the southwest and Ilha da Barreta (aka Ilha Deserta) to the south, are all within a reasonable distance and certainly add to the attraction of Faro.
Your base for the weekend is just a short walk from the attractive marina where, your ‘Learn to SUP’ package takes place.
Your hosts and guides at Algarve SUP are all fully qualified (ASI) instructors. Their knowledge of the local area is extensive, this has allowed them to design an itinerary which ensures you experience some of the most delightful stretches of Faro’s waterways. Along the way, you will learn some of the history of the area, whilst at the same time quickly acquiring the necessary skills to allow you to be confident and competent at paddleboarding.
This is a sample ‘Learn to SUP’ itinerary. Any changes to the following itineraries, due to adverse weather, tides, or other local conditions, would only be done in exceptional circumstances and always in your best interest.
Day 1 – Friday Your group will be collected from Faro Airport FAO and transferred to your accommodation. Dinner at your own account
Day 2 – Saturday After a buffet breakfast, your group will spend a half day learning the basics of SUP in the calm waters of the nearby Marina. We can adapt your itinerary to either paddle in the morning or afternoon. We suggest you spend the rest of the day exploring the wonderful City of Faro.
Day 3 – Sunday Again, your fully flexible itinerary can be adjusted to suit your groups requirements. If you have spent the previous evening experiencing Faro’s Bars, Clubs and Cafes, you may prefer a relaxing morning, followed by more paddleboarding in the afternoon.
It is possible to add an extension to your ‘Learn to SUP’ package to enable you to travel to close by ‘Seven Hanging’s Valleys’
Day 4 Monday Your last morning in Faro. After breakfast there is time for a finally SUP. By now you should be comfortable and confident on the water and have a host of new skills under your belt.
Return to your Hostel for a quick freshen up before collecting your luggage and checking out at noon.
Your group will be transferred back to Faro Airport for your flight home.
